  1. Boost the library

Boost the library by making it a more social, popular, exciting and vibrant place- using parts of the venue for various entertainment eg live entertainment, music, films, readings, enjoy a audiobook or podcast in a group etc
Also, provide ear defenders for those who are reading quietly or incorporate noise cancelling areas.

    • 'I'll be back' cards in the library

There should be cards available I the library which people can signal when they leave their desk the time they went and the time they'll be back - if there's a 45 minute limit or something. If they go over, their stuff will be moved. This will mean that library staff don't have to be constantly circulating, and that people don't get frustrated when people just leave stuff for ages.

      • Paint the Underpass with carbon emission absorbing paint

Currently, the underpass is a very dreary place and I, personally, think that some kind of art feature on the wall would be beneficial. Tying in with the university's sustainability initiatives, this feature could be made up of carbon emission neutralising paint that could absorb the pollution caused by the buses and coaches passing through the underpass. It would add a pop of colour to an otherwise bare location that could ease the wait for students and also, reduce the university's carbon emissions. It was used in a project back in Manila, where I used to live, along congested highways…

        • e-library card

electronic library card on iLancaster, so you can use it instead of fiddling round in wallet to get card out to show to library machine. Just flash your phone, signed into iLancaster and it should know who you are.
Minimum to have library card on iLancaster app, so you can put the phone over the scanners.

          • Interdisciplinary meet-up and discussion app.

A tool to help students meet up with other students who are taking other subjects to help each other, team up and discuss how they interact and complement each other. Will also work for staff and research students looking for colleagues within other disciplines to team up with or get advice from. Could be accompanied with regular 'real world' networking events also.

              • How to write western style essays

As a foreigner abroad there were many things I wished I had learned in depth before starting university, and one of them is writing a great Western style essay. When I say western style, I mean in the sense off knowing the best writing method to use,the type of vocabulary that can be used to make the essay more clear and concise for the marker. There are a number of books and websites out there that on how to write an essay but none of them go into depth to help students on how to successfully write a remarkable western style…

                      • Brain Food

Especially in exam period I often find myself in the library late at night. At this time of day, all the shops where I could purchase a quick non-sugary snack are closed. I suggest the addition of items such as granola bars in the library vending machines so I don't have to feel so guilty having some brain food at 11pm!

                        • Enhance my CV

Students (internally authenticated) can submit their CVs. The CVs are displayed with nice graphical previews so that people can see them and then other students can volunteer to fix them up. Students could also get credits and qudos on the site for doing a really good jobs and careers experts can also participate. CVs are ranked so the best ones can also be used as examples of good practice.
